EPZA in sustainable environmental conservation strategies

EPZA in its efforts to protect the environment in Special Economic Zones.

The EPZA Authority and its stakeholders, including environmentalists, have continued to improve the level of environmental protection.

This was stated by the Director General of EPZA Mr. Charles Itembe while giving a presentation to stakeholders from the Wami/Ruvu Basin Authority, NEMC, GIZ, the Ministry of Water and other stakeholders on 28 March 2025

In addition, the Director General also said that according to the responsibilities and tasks of EPZA, Tanzania expects to transform the country's economy from relying solely on an agricultural economy to becoming an industrial economy.

One of the achievements that EPZA has made is having the Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zone SEZ, Dar es Salaam. The zone has brought great benefits to this country, where approximately 6,500 people have gained direct and 1,000 indirect jobs. The Government's intention is to have such areas in every region, which will increase employment opportunities for Tanzanians, the processing of the country's raw materials and the integration of foreign exchange earnings. Among other things, the Authority toured its stakeholders to the industrial area and the industrial wastewater treatment area.
