EPZA meeting with representatives from the Angola Embassy in Tanzania


The Director General of Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) Mr. Charles Itembe hosted a visit from the Angola Embassy led by Mr. Antonio Duarte Gomes representing the Angola Ambassador in Tanzania H.E. Sandro de Oliveira. The delegation visited EPZA Headquarters - Dar es Salaam on 06 February 2025 with the aim of learning new experience from Tanzania.

Among other things, the visit had the opportunity to get a presentation from the General Director of EPZA who started by explaining that the visit was distinguished and focused on sharing experiences in matters of economy and investment in their country. In addition, he explained that so far EPZA has made a great contribution by registering productive industrial projects that have invested and contributed capital of more than 3 billion US dollars and contributed to exports of more than 2 billion US dollars, and gave future expectations that the Institute has a wide field to grow and make a big impact in the near future because until now a lot of basic work has been done to allocate areas for building industries, thus giving the Institute the opportunity to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the country's economy in produce products for export, increase employment opportunities, process local raw materials and increase the income of individual Tanzanians and the Nation as a whole.

In addition, the Director General explained that the Special Economic Zone Investment Scheme brings immediate results, as the concept has been proven in the current industrial world. Citing the example of Asian countries that in few years ago had small economy but have taken rapid steps in the development of industries and services after implementing programs of Special Economic Zones where the biggest advantage of these investment schemes is to put many industries in one area and thus get services easily and efficiently.

The Director General added that, now Africa has opened its market, and now countries will be selling products from Special Economic Zones without any restrictions, and explained that it is the right time to strengthen Special Industrial Zones so that the country can benefit commercially from the African market and promote competition by producing quality products at low cost.

In addition, he explained that Tanzania has planned to develop its economy, as it has set aside land for Special Economic Zones with more than 30,000 Hectares throughout the country to improve the attractive industrial environment, it has also strengthened the infrastructure of Water, Roads, Railways and Electricity, which is in line with the speed of the Government's plans for the sixth phase.

In addition to that, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the industrial area of Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zone which has industries from different sectors including clothes, bank cards, coffee, agricultural products and so on. The area has contributed more than 5,000 direct jobs and proves that the Special Economic Zones scheme can stimulate rapid development.

Speaking after the visit, the representative of Hon. The Ambassador of Angola in Tanzania Mr. Antonio Gomes has said that they are very interested in EPZA programs and they are also going to start this program in their country to bring development and help their country develop the industrial sector, attract investment, increase employment opportunities and get new technologies from different countries.
