Earlier today, the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam Hon. Albert Chalamila visited an important industrial zone known as the Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zone (BWM SEZ) in Dar es Salaam, which was established and is managed by the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA)

The zone has a significant contribution in manufacturing produce for export, attraction foreign exchange earnings, employment, utilization of local raw materials and technology transfer and has accommodated various industrial sectors including Textile, Electronic Bank Cards, Agro-Processing, Coffee, Mineral Chemicals , etc.

The Regional Commissioner was pleased with the efforts that EPZA has done so far in achieving its goals by attracting large investment projects in this country that has been able to create more than 4500 direct jobs in BWM SEZ alone. Due to this notable achievement, he has argued to officers under his administration to set aside land/areas for factory investment projects in Dar es Salaam in order to be able to attract more investors.

Giving some information to the Regional Commissioner, The Director General of EPZA Mr. Charles J. Itembe said that the Government has a clear intention to allocate land for Special Economic Zones in different regions such as BWM SEZ, as this concept has proven positively towards the future economy of the country.

Having many Special Economic Zones that perform well like BWM SEZ, is not only the dream of Tanzania, but it has been the dream of many countries in Africa, and this is the reason why these EPZ and SEZ Schemes attract many leaders from different countries, who have been coming to see EPZA's contribution in the field of having export oriented production facilities. A good example is the President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau Hon. Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló who was impressed by Tanzania's efforts toward developing its economy through Manufacturing sector under Special Economic Zones Schemes, and said that with this type of effort Africa will take steps towards economic development very quickly in the near.
